Mahal Kohistan Wildlife Sanctuary

The Nature, Culture and Adventure of Kirthar National ParkDesignated in 1972, Mahal Kohistan Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the south of Kirthar National Park & at an area of aroundĀ  70,577ha. Common wildlife includes fox, Jackal, Jungle Cat, Chinkara Gazelle, Urial, Monitor Lizard and Indian cobra. The area is located in Jamshoro, Sindh and is considered a very significant habitat for wild fauna of Southern Pakistan.

The current research undertaken in the recent years has shown a total of 29 species of Mammals, 78 Aves species and 3 dozen species of wild Reptiles. The area comprises of various kind of habitats mostly like Mountain Ridges, dry river beds, hard rocky Area, Sandy Plains, small Wetlands, and some rural and Agricultural areas.

M. A. Iqbal et al. in 2017 in a recent study has markedĀ  marked Caracal and Striped Hyaena as critically endangered. Whereas Indian Wolf, Sind Ibex, Urial, Chinkara and Egyption Vultures have been marked as IUCN endangered species. Despite the fact that, the land is marked as protected for these species, it still comes across certain harsh threats prominently because of the reliance of the local inhabitants on the availableĀ  natural reservoirs of minerals, industrial chemicals and increased frequency and continued dry seasons because of the dramatical climate changes.
