Kharar Lake Wildlife Sanctuary

Propagate over a place of 235ha, this source can be found on the flatlands to the southern region of the Ravi Stream, 20km north-east of Okara, Okara Section 30°53’N, 73°35’E. IUCN Control Classification FV(Managed Characteristics Reserve). Biogeographical and region 4.15.07 (Thar Desert). The stream was first specific as a creatures haven in 1971; the haven was re-notified in May 1983.

 

Kharar is a short brackish/saline pond, with associated brackish wetlands. It was designed in 1945 due to water-logging, and is fed by regional run-off and seepage from nearby irrigated farming place. During the overflow period, unwanted water from nearby place is redirected to the pond, producing a decrease in salinity. The level of water differs from 0.2m to 3.0m. A pH value of 8.0 was noted in August 1986.

 

Climate Circumstances are dry subtropical, with a mean yearly rain fall of 225mm. Mean lowest heat range in Jan is 9.5°C, and mean highest possible in May is 35”C. Crops Water vegetation contains Carexfedia, Chara sp., Cynodon dactylon, Hydrilla verticillata, Juncus sp., Phragmites karka, Potamogeton spp., Saccharum spp., Typha angustata and Zannichellia palustris. Around places are mainly under farming for normal cotton, grain,
wheat, and sugars stick. The normal vegetation of the nearby flatlands is exotic thorn woodlands with types such as Tamarix aphylla, Prosopis cineraria, Zizyphus mauritiana, Z. nummularia. Acacia nilotica, Crotolaria burhia, Aeruajavanica, Suaedafruticosa, Salsolafoetida, Eleusine compressa and Panicum antidotale. Pennisetum typhoides and Triticum aestivum are commonly developed.

 

Fauna Over 66 waterfowl were noted in mid- Jan 1987, of which the most several types were wigeon Anas penelope (3,870), gadwalM. strepera (5,860), teal A. crec-ca (21,200), pintail A. acuta (8,730), shoveler. clypeata (3,600), cootFulica atra (12,600) and pochdud Ay thy a ferina (10,300). A particularly popular winter period guest is white-headed in
Oxyura leucocephala (V), with 48 noted later.

 

Mammals known to happen in the place involve outrageous boar Sus scrofa, jackal Credit charge playing cards aureus, woodlands cat Felis chaus and black-naped hare Lepus nigricollis.
